The Teak Tomato Stool takes its name from the lobed, squat form of a beef tomato — but the comparison only goes so far. What you’re actually looking at is a piece of teak root that has been carved and worked to reveal a form of considerable drama: deep fissures running between swelling lobes, raw cavities where the root once twisted and grew, a surface that moves between dark shadow and rich warm grain depending on where the light falls. It is, unambiguously, a piece of sculpture.

It also happens to be a very good stool. The wide, gently domed top — smooth where you sit, richly textured at the edges — is stable and comfortable. At 36cm high it works as a low occasional seat, a side table beside a sofa or armchair, a plant stand, or a display plinth for something worth looking at. Teak is naturally dense, oiled and weather-resistant, which means this stool is equally at home on a terrace or in a living room. Every piece is different.
